Oil Be Back! OverflateXperten Returns to Oil Rig for More Glass Renovation and Protection Work

OverflateXperten is Ritec’s official Marketing Partner in Norway and possess a lot of experience renovating and protecting glass on-site. They particularly specialise in glass on oil rigs and platforms in the North Sea.

OverflateXperten has worked extensively on the Ekofisk oil field in the past. More recently, they were asked to renovate and protect glass on a driller cabin on-site with the ClearShield Eco-System®. This is because the oil rig’s crew were not able to get the ordinary, unprotected glass perfectly clean themselves despite their best efforts using specialised window cleaning products, as the ‘Before’ images show.

The ClearShield Eco-System® is designed to restore glass to its original ‘as-new’ appearance before the application of award-winning and durable ClearShield® ‘non-stick’ glass surface treatment. This ensures less staining building up on the glass so helps to maximise visibility and clarity. In addition, this optimises safety and helps reduce operational costs. For example, poor visibility from mud and oil splatter on the glass can potentially result in accidents and therefore the operation risks being shut down by the Health & Safety Executive; shutting down an oil rig costs on average £75,000 / $100,000 a day.

Thanks to the ClearShield Eco-System®, these problems are significantly reduced, despite the harsh offshore conditions. The System has 40 years of experience, even in tough marine conditions where ordinary, unprotected glass can corrode easily. The System upgrades the ordinary glass to higher performance ClearShield Eco-Glass® without the expensive costs and aggravation associated with glass replacement.

The net result is significantly less build-up of contaminants on the glass, and any mud and oil splatter is easier to remove without the need for harsh or abrasive cleaning processes or materials that are hazardous to human health and the environment. The driller operator now has maximum visibility and the treated glass helps avoid expensive shutdowns.
